Heritage & Culture
Recognized as one of the most culturally diverse cities in the country, Albuquerque’s ethnic tapestry is reflected in its architecture, artwork, cultural centers and cuisine.
New Mexico Heritage
Starting with the Native Americans who have lived here for thousands of years, through to the city’s official founding in 1706, the Albuquerque area is steeped in history and magic. The Rio Grande Valley has been populated as far back as 2,000 BC, and the Pueblo people who lived in the area before the first Europeans arrived had already developed a sophisticated culture and language, as well as highly advanced skills in masonry, ceramics and a wide range of arts and crafts.
